Suggest Treatment For Rashes In The Neck And Scalp

I had 1 dose of Lovenox SQ in the hospital prior to admission for multiple pulmonary embolisms. At 5AM the next morning, I woke up with a rash on both sides of my neck. Since then, the rash spread to my jaw line, ear lobes, hairline, scalp & right eyebrow. It is not very red but pink, elevated & extremely itchy at times lasting 3 weeks. Skin biopsy showed it is an allergic reaction. No other med. changes than the Lovenox, soap or detergent or foods have occurred prior to the Lovenox. Could this be from the Lovenox or could it systemic?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably it is due to allergic reaction to Lovenox. If the rash persists you can take antihistamines like pheniramine. You can consult your physician and ask for an alternative to Lovenox.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
