Suggest Treatment For Rashes On The Penile Shaft

HI there, I am a 24 year old male who believes that I may have contracted HSV 2 during oral sex (from a cold sore). I have developed a rash on the bottom of my shaft below my abdomen. I am currently shedding dead skin from the small spot where the sore occurred 2 -3 weeks ago. I would like to know, however, if the rest of my penis and/ or genitals are also contagious during this time (shedding AND outbreak) or if the virus can only be contracted from the spot of the sore? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to a herpes simplex 2. You can use antiviral ointment such as Acyclovir cream for local application. I also recommend using a condom during sexual contact because you can be contagious.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
