Suggest Treatment For Rashes On The Stomach

My son in law has a rash on his belly and is going around his waist. The dr. told him it was poison ivy but I think it s shingles. I would like to see some pictures of both. Do you think it s shingles? He says it s very itchy and just a very small pimple hurts him a lot. He has quite a bit now. The dr. prescribed cortezone.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A rash at the waist area may be an allergic reaction to the belt if it contains nickel. Normally shingles should cause vesicles on a red background and are painful, they generally give a burning sensation. It should normally get better spontaneously within 1-2 weeks and no specific treatment is needed for shingles.

Thus, I would recommend him to use the cortisone cream that the doctor has already prescribed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
