Suggest Treatment For Raspy Voice Along With Persistent Cough

I have a raspy voice (hoarseness that varies), and a sore throat with a persistent cough. My sputum (or saliva) is tart & sour (clear or milky with little bubbles). Sometimes I feel like I am drowning in my own saliva, esp. when I try to read in bed before going to sleep. Feel like I want to reach down into my throat and upper chest area and PULL OUT whatever is in there... sort of feels like blockage of some kind. Have taken Trimethoprim (sp?) and it has not changed anything (no improvement). Any ideas? Would a throat culture determine what is causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of Gastro Esophageal Refulx Disease (GERD).I would suggest you start on Pantoprazole 40mg once daily at morning before food. Also avoid/cut down on caffeine, smoking, alcohol and fatty food. And please don't lie down immediately after meals.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Raunak Saha
