Suggest Treatment For Rectal Pain When Diagnosed With Diverticulitis

My husband is in a lot of pain in his rectum. There is some blood and puss. He s had several bouts with diverticulitis and has had many inches of his colon removed over several surgeries. The pain is more than he can bare. He hurts to sit and lay down. What could this be. Also, I don t know if this is related but he is pulling black stuff out of his nose.
