Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Boils On Body

Hello, I have a 1 year old who is still breastfeeding. I have recurring boils on my body. The started when I was 39 weeks pregnant last year in June 2014. To date I have had 16 of them. Within the last 2 months I have gotten 9. I currently have 3 painful ones right now with what seem to be a new one about to develop by my rib cage. Can I take penicillin? Is it okay for my baby. How about Methylprednisone? What can I do to avoid recurring infections? Thanks, Patty

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Having recurrent boils is a real problem and a difficult problem to heal. The usual course is oral antibiotics but this is an double edge sword as continued use of antibiotics can cause resistant bacteria and super infections. I would start antibiotics and see how that progresses. Penicillin is not a drug of choice as there are so many bacteria resistant to penicillin and methylprednisone will reduce your immunity and increase boils
