I often feel nasal congestion (left side) as well as constriction of throat at night and it affects my ability to fall asleep. I ve had surgery to repair dev septum, insert spreader graft, and shave inferior turbinates (7 yrs ago). I ve recently been diagnosed w/ benign thyroid nodules (left side--GP not overly worried). I have chronic seasonal environmental allergies (tree pollens, grass, weeds), for which I ve tried weekly allergy shots--without noting much improvement in allergy symptoms. I have special pillowcase to keep out dustmites, I wash hair and pillow case daily. I stay inside when the pollen count is high. I am not a smoker, and I drink sufficient water. Nasal sprays do reduce swelling, but also I feel they keep me awake--if I use them at night when I really want to make sure I have patent airway. I don t like taking oral allergy medicine as it either tends to make me groggy (even loratadine) or wired (zyrtec). Any thoughts? Is this likely nasal polyps or adhesions?
