Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Yeast Infection And Chronic Insomnia

I am a 49 year-old female. I think I might be anemic. I am a healthy vegetarian (over 22 years), five foot four, weigh 130, have always exercised a lot, very energetic. . . but recently I have lost my ability to function. I am very tired, weak, dizzy, lightheaded, have cracks in the corners of my mouth, trouble swallowing. I take a lot of medication for a bipolar condition, including Pristiq, Zyprexa, and Lithium. I have also been having a lot of yeast infections lately. I have chronic insomnia for which I take Trazadone. I still have my periods, but they are very light. I do drink alcohol. I don t smoke.

Hello,

It is good to know that you do not smoke. You should also cut on your alcohol intake. Since you are having cracks in the corners of the mouth, light periods, feeling tired and light headed you are neglecting your health. You are in menopausal phase and hormonal changes are taking place. You need to take vitamin B6, B12 rich food or supplements. Take a balanced diet with enough protein, calcium and iron. Stay well hydrated.

Avoid sedentary lifestyle, stay active. Take care of your hygiene, yest infections may occur due to deficiency of vitamin E, calcium and protein in the diet. You can take an oral course of Fluconazole or Miconazole to get rid of yeast infection. Avoid sex for a couple of days. To get rid of insomnia, avoid stress and anxiety. Keep your bedroom, clean airy & dim lighted. Use bedroom to rest, do not work on computer when you are in your bed room.

Before going to bed, read a book. After that close your eyes and listen to music, relax. Avoid thinking and go off to sleep. Side effects of certain medicines also cause insomnia, you can discuss it with your treating doctor so that your medicines are replaced and you feel better.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
