Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Since late January of this year I have been treating a pyogenic liver abscess which is approx. 7 1/2 cm in diameter. First course of treatment was percuntaneous drainage for 3 weeks and 29 days of antibiotics administered daily via a pic line. Recently it would appear that the abscess has come back and my doctor wants to administer the same treatment as above for the 2nd time??? Is this in my best interest or would surgical drainage be far more effective.
Hello sir/madam, thank you for sharing your doubts with us. The cause for the abscess is due to infection. Continue antibiotic course or if its not sensitive, change the antibiotics. Along with this, the simple drainage of the fluid helps antibiotic to act vigorously. This hastens recovery. Simply why you want to have surgical procedure. Why you want to take long route? Any further doubts kindly write to us. Take care. Good health.
