Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have pretty severe acid reflux; not sure if any of you physically have experienced it in such a stressful way as i have, but it has been going on for a few years now; off and on. i generally take a zantec before i eat, etc. it gets unbearable sometimes. also, for a week my stomach has been severely crampy/tight. the tightening feeling of small off and on sharp pains have been throughout my whole abdomen that i cannot tell where it is coming from. could be an ulcer or a few other problems but it would occur around navel, sides and above....also have been nauseous all week. could be a number of things, not being able to eat til late after a long day, but i get nauseous within a few after ingesting food. what do you think i could be suffering with?
Hello Since you are having acid reflux for many years but in my opinion get in upper G I endoscopy for confirmation for Peptic ulcer disease or Hiatus hernia . But these measures may be useful for you. Try raising the head of your bed about 4 inches with blocks. It also might help to avoid eating or drinking for 2-3 hours before you lie down. To control stomach acid one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them or eat chocolates or spicy or greasy foods . Don't take pizza, burgers , sweets . Also take some antacid but since you are taking ranitidine ( zentac ) this is a good drug . But in such cases I usually prescribe rabeprazole+itopride twice in day on empty stomach for 2-3 months ( or till complete cure ). In my opinion stressful life is responsible for such symptoms so if possible don't take tension and anxiety. Untimely food and overeating are other factors for such symptoms , so becareful about that. Hope these measures will be helpful for you.
