Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 35 years old and female and live in the UK. I have been diagnosed by the doctors with an anal fissure. I have had this problem (on and off) since last September. I was prescribed Diltiazem cream and Fybogel. I felt a lot better until about a week ago when I went to the hospital for a check up. The doctor when checking was quite harsh and I feel I have gome back to square one! I am in pain when going to the toilet and the Diltiazem doesn't seem to be helping. I really don't want to have surgery. I hope you can help.
Hello, my name is Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi.I understand your concern. The only treatment for anal fissure is surgery. Meanwhile some advice are: -using over-the-counter stool softeners. -drinking more fluids. -taking fiber supplements and eating more fibrous foods, such as raw fruits and vegetables. -taking warm baths called sitz baths to relax the anal muscles, relieve irritation Hope it helps, kind regards!
