Suggest Treatment For Recurring Cold And Shivering

My husband periodically awakens feeling very cold and even shivering, even though he was warm and under the blankets. This happens with no apparent connection to activity, foods, and can be twice in a week or a month may go by for the past couple of years. He is 60, in good health, on no medicines. Any ideas? Thank you very much.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Cold without fever can be seen in cases with low hemoglobin (anemia) or low thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism) or psychological stress. He needs blood tests for pin pointing the cause followed by cause specific treatment. Please consult a physician /endocrinologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
