Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi . My son is 6 yrs and weighs 23 kg.. he is suffering from fever from past 3 days, today we took him to doctor and he gave wikoryl 5ml along with calpol 5 no.. I gave him at 8:pm but now the Temperature is gone up to 102.5 , so I had to give him meftal p... I gave it around 12:50 am.. is this fine
Fever for 3-4 days is usual in children and is not worrisome as long as the child is active and eating. As for the medications please be aware that wikoryl contains acetaminophen (paracetamol) which is present in calpol as well so it increases the risk for overdose if you use together and may result in poisoning from paracetamol. They should not be used together. Make sure you use only medications recommended for children and follow the dose according to his age (the letter in the box gives guidance on this).
If your child has fever for longer than 4 days or if he is not active or is not eating well, he needs to be seen by the doctor again.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
