Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello- I am a 29 year old, 160 lb male. I have a recurring midline neck mass (removed twice) that has presented itself again. The first two times the lab work came back as benign submental neck mass. In each instance I experience a small lump in essentially the same location. Other physical symptoms include discomfort swallowing and what I would describe as tightness in the base of my tongue. It s like i can move the neck mass by flexing the tongue to the roof of my mouth. These symptoms go away after surgery but the mass has now recurred a 3rd time. It s concerning the first time around let alone 3 times. I m afraid that the surgeon was treating the mass and not the cause. Any idea what would cause this? Seems like everything I read says cancer of some sort but both previous labs and a needle aspiration have come back as benign.
The mass should be examined under pathological conditions like fine needle aspiration to rule out the causes for the recurrence, do consult general surgeon.
