Suggest Treatment For Recurring Vertigo Causing Blurry Vision

I have been experiencing vertigo which I have had before around allergy season, so i went to my doctor she gave me a steriod shot even though my ears looked good. She also gave me the transderm patches. They made me even more dizzy so I quit using them. She told me to check back with her in a week and if I didn t get better she would need to send me to ENT. Could my dizzieness be from not getting good sleep I am so tired? Could Chiropractic help? No offense but Specialists have a reputation of surgery or drugs. I hate both. Could this Vertigo be messing with my vision as well? I haven t been seeing to well for a month or so. This is really driving me crazy.

Hello,

Dizziness and vertigo are among the most common symptoms causing patients to visit a physician (as common as back pain and headaches). Most common cause of peripheral vertigo is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), vestibular neuronitis and Meniere's disease related to inner ear. Most common cause of central vertigo is migraine. Other causes include demyelination, acoustic tumors, brainstem vascular lesions like TIA, stroke, multiple sclerosis. Cervical spondylitis can lead to vertigo.

Most commonly performed investigations are audiometry, vestibular tests, blood tests, CT and MRI. Treatment option depends upon the type of vertigo central or peripheral. Drugs used to control vertigo are antihistamines, 1st Generation : Meclizine dimenhydrinate, anxiolytics benzodiazepines: diazepam, Phenothiazine derivatives: Promethazine, prochlorperazine, Ephedrine, scopolamine, and vestibular suppressants like Betahistine.

Please do consult an ENT specialist to arrive at a specific diagnosis and for appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
