Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hey there.. I just woke up with a red itchy bump on my top lip.. My bottom lip is itchy too, there is a a tiny tiny bump on my bottom lip. I have been having allergies such as itchy eyes, itchy nose, ears and throat.. Not sure if its a cold sore or an allergic reaction.. How long will it be there for and if I keep picking at it will it still itch and get worse?
I can understand your concern. The itchy lip seems like an allergy reaction as the cold sores are painful. I would advise not to pick at the bump or lesion.
I recommend you to start treatment with antihistamine such as Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast) or Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) once a day for 5 days.
If you do not know what substance you are allergic to, after around 15 days, you should go for a blood test for allergy which will evaluate what substances you are allergic to and what exposure you should avoid in future.
If the reaction does not subside in 1-2 days, then you should consult a dentist or a dermatologist for clinical examination and further investigations for the diagnosis and treatment of the lesion.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
