Suggest Treatment For Red Spots On The Penis Tip

Hello- I have a couple red spots on the tip of my penis- I am non circumsized and they don t itch or burn. I never had them before. I recently started wearing a different brand of underwear.. Found they got too sweaty on hot days so I switched back to my original brand. It was during the course of using the new underwear I discovered the spots. Pics can be sent if it ll help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have mentioned nothing abut your sexual history, whether you are sexually active or not. If active avoid multiple partners.

Take care of your hygiene. Your symptoms are of Balanitis, it is caused due to poor hygiene & infection. Neglect will lead to irritation, itching, swelling.

Do not scratch, avoid the use of scented soaps, wash the groin & keep clean the area under the foreskin. Keep it dry to avoid fungal infections.

Apply hydrocortisone ointment, antifungal(clotrimazole ointment) & take a course of metronidazole/ Fluconazole if it does not get reduced with the ointments.

If you are sexually active, you should get it examined a GP. Get STD tests done to stay on the safer side.

If tests are positive you will be treated with antivirals & antibiotics depending upon the severity of the infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
