Suggest Treatment For Red Spots On The Torso In An Infant

I have a 23 month daughter that in the last couple days started having little red spots showing up on her torso. and each day a few more have showed up aroun her diaper area and arms. she is not on medicine, no change in diet with exception of consuming more milk. she also started having clear nasal drainage about the same time. no fevers, no change in attitude. I have washed all her bedding and clothes.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This seems to be a viral exanthem. A rash due to a virus. If it doesn't bother her, no need to do anything about it. If it seems sore or itchy, a Lacto calamine lotion or coll compresses with a wash cloth can help with relief. Apply a baby skin friendly moisturizer of it starts to peel.

If there is any sign of Infection (like local redness around the rash, pus collection with warmth, fever), or if she seems irritable or the rash lasts for more than 10 days without showing any signs of receding, see her pediatrician. Else, nothing to worry, it will go away in a week.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Wish you good health!

Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
