Suggest Treatment For Redness And Pressure Behind The Eye After An Injury

I poked myself in the eye in the shower. I wear contact lenses. My eye is very red. I can see about as good as I could before the eye poke, but when I move my eye I can feel pressure behind my eye. Almost like I can feel the optic nerve. The top side of my eye closest to my nose is sore.. Do I take the contact out and do I go to an emergency room?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think yes, should take the contact lenses out as might have caused some laceration when you poked yourself in the shower. And yes should follow up with your eye specialist.

If cannot manage to see him/her as soon as possible, then go to the ER for immediate assistance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
