Suggest Treatment For Redness In Between Elbows And Shoulder

I have had this for years. My skin is red on my upper arms from my elbows to almost the top of my shoulder. It doesn t hurt or itch. I have always exfoliated so I don t have little red bumps just a large area that is red. It always looks like I have a sunburn! It s embarrassing to me! I would like to know if it s treatable? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

From your description, I am considering the diagnosis Keratosis Pilaris which is benign and common. If only the backside (extensor side) is affected I believe this is likely the condition you have. Treatment include light scrub followed by moisture cream, preferably Carbamide or Lactate cream. In more severe cases, A-vitamin cream is considered.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Martin Christian Harmsen, General & Family Physician
