Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Redness With Burning Sensation On The Face
Hello, I have a small area of skin on my face (left cheek, near the mouth and nose) that is red and irritated. I noticed the redness over a week ago. What can I do for my facial skin to aid in the healing process? What can I use as a moisturizer that will not aggravate this patch of irritated skin? (I routinely use Olay Complete with SPF 15.) Thanks for your help. Glenda
The patch you are prescribing can be caused by different reasons like yeast or bacterial infection and also local dermatitis. Each of them have specific treatment. If the red area is painful please see your doctor soon to rule out erisipela or other important skin infections.
If the patch has yellow crusts on then superficial bacterial infection is likely and an antibiotic cream can be used 3 times a day. If no yellow crust is present but scales on the patch then you can use a cream that is a combination of antifungal (Clotrimazole or Miconazole) and mild steroid (Hydrocortisone.) Keep the area clean and don't use makeup.
If no improvement in 3-4 days or you notice any worsening you will need to see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
