Suggest Treatment For Relapsed Balanitis

Hi .. i have been suffering from balanitis..for 2 mnths..took medicine ciplox 500 , i was recovering well, but it relapsed once more after i stopped taking medicine briefly... Plz suggest what shall i do..I hv done all the test both urine nd blood...there is nothing to be concerned in those reports. i didnt had sex outside...

Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
The main cause of occurrence of 'balanitis' and its recurrence is poor hygiene. Poor hygiene helps harmful bacteria to overpopulate the area, which is manifested in the form of infection.
Also, reinfection is possible if the organisms are resistant to the antibiotic which you have used.
Kindly get the culture and sensitivity test done of the secretions so that you can then take appropriate course of antibiotics.
Other measures which you need to take care along with are as follows:
1. Wash the area everyday with clod water and mild antiseptic solution like Povidine-Iodine.
2. Apply Mupirocin ointment as a thin layer underneath your foreskin after drying.
3. Avoid using irritants such as perfumed soap, lotion or powder which would irritate the foreskin.
4. Wear loose fitting underwear and abstain from sexual activities till the lesion heals completely.
