Suggest Treatment For Respiratory Infection, Head Congestion, Cough And Ear Pain

Last month I went to the doctor and was given antibiotics for a respiratory infection. I never actually got 100% better. I have had head congestion since and mucussy cough and headache plus earache and sore throat. Now, I noticed my tongue is sensitive and has a yellowish green coating. Doesn t taste really swell either... Is this going to eventually straighten out with OTC mess? Or should I go to the doctor...

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from chronic upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold and the symptoms of head congestion, cough with mucous, sore throat and earache can be due to it..
Tongue sensitivity seems to be due to inflammation leading to Glossitis and seems to be secondary to infection only while yellowish green coating seems to be due to poor oral hygiene leading to deposition of dead cells, debris and bacterial and fungal overgrowth over the tongue..
As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
-Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
-Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen..
-Take cough expectorant containing Gueifenesin and cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan.
-Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..
-Do steam inhalations..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
-Sip on warm water throughout the day..
-Do warm compresses over chest..
-For tongue coating you can start cleaning your tongue with tongue scraper..
-Gargle with 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water..
-You can also dip a soft toothbrush in the above solution and brush your tongue with it..

Hopefully the symptoms will resolve within a week and if it worsen consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
