Suggest Treatment For Restricted Movement In Arm Of A 3 Year Old
My 3 year old woke this morning saying he couldn t move his arm. After a while he started moving it but won t completely straighten it and says it hurts in his armpit. No signs of anything abnormal except he has carried his arm against his body all day, bent at a 90° angle. He will do everything with it except fully extend it. When I ve moved it slightly to try to make him extend it, he winces, says Ow! and drops it back down. What could possibly be wrong?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi,
You kid could have injured his upper arm like hit against something or a trivial fall on outstretched hand. Possibilities are growth plate fracture or epiphyseal injury, pulled muscle or ligament. Give him an arm sling and if pain not improving then go to ER or orthopedician for taking X-ray.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nishad B. N., General & Family Physician
