Hello concerned wife and thanks for writing to Hcm

I read your query and understand it is regarding Rheumatoid arthritis medications.

though your query is vague ,i will help you regarding the various treatments that we commonly use here.

Bit more details would have helped:
Your husband's age?
how long is he is on medication for Rheumatoid arthritis?
any other drug history or medical history
(eg:diabetes,thyroid disorders etc)?

Coming to your query now,

Since rheumatologist have already confirmed the diagnosis,if i were his treating doctor,
i will advise naproxen or celecoxib tablet for pain and reducing inflammation

and

i will recommend starting him on methylprednisolone 4mg or prednisolone 5mg twice daily for four to eight weeks initially, along with Tab methotrexate orally or as injection with dose of 15mg once a week as starting
dose.

Methotrexate is the first line in treating Rheumatoid arthritis ,but since it takes 4 to 6 weeks to take effect, methylprednisolone or prednisolone would be helpful

In cases, methotrexate is not helpful as a single drug therapy,i would recommend adding azathioprine or sulfasalazine as combination therapy.

while taking these drugs,i would strongly recommend routine blood tests and assesment of liver function and immunological status every 2 to 3 months

If your husband experience flare up of symptoms, injection of corticosteroid into the joint may be advised.

I would also recommend taking etanercept or infliximab or rituximab based on his response to above regimen and this are to be taken only after prescription of your doctor

Severe cases,i would advise going for joint replacement surgeries ,if severe loss of movement and function is there.

I hope i have made it clear and hope it helps
Followup if needed.
Good day
