Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I m on meds for rheumatoid arthritis and I m overweight. I take methotrexate, lyrica, prednisone, and meloxicam. I exercise as much as possible and eat as healthy as possible but it s still really hard to lose the weight. I m 5 3 and weigh between 220 & 225. I had 2 back surgeries a little over a yr ago & both of my knees are bone on bone with bone spurs. That makes it hard 2 do certain exercises. My question is, would I be able to take the weight loss med CONTRAVE with the other meds that I m on?
There is a risk of interaction but it is not with the contrave. The contrave can be safely used with your other medications, there is no interaction between any of these.
There is an interaction between methotrexate and meloxicam. The meloxicam increases the level of the methotrexate by decreasing the kidneys ability to get rid of methotrexate. This can result in very high levels of the methotrexate and potentially cause complications related to this medication.
You may want to discuss this with your doctor.
I hope this helps
