hello
welcome to hcm
well,if the ultrasonologist has told you that there is thickening of your intestinal walls then i m afraid that your doctor is not doing the right thing by saying that YOU DONT NEED TO WORRY !!!! i m not asking you to start worrying but yes,i would definately ask you to not to ignore it till the underlying root cause for the intestinal thickening is detected..thickening of the intestines can occur mostly due to the following underlying conditions--
(1) INFECTIONS of the intestinal walls specifically in intestinal tuberculosis
(2) INFLAMMATION OF THE INTESTINAL WALLS specially in crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis
(3)
ISCHEMIA OF THE INTESTINAL WALLS
(4) TUMORS OF INTESTINES such as in lymphomas and adenocarcinoma of the intestines
i would advice you to kindly consult with your doctor about getting the following tests done to make a precise diagnosis--
(1)
CT SCAN OF THE ABDOMAN
(2)
BIOPSY OF THE THICKENED PART OF THE INTESTINAL WALL
(3) COLONOSCOPY
these are very sensitive and specific investigations in comparison to the
ultrasound and will help in making a precise diagnosis and once the underlying cause is known, specific treatment will be prescribed for curing the underlying cause of your intestinal thickening .
i hope you will find this information to be helpfull
take care
