Suggest Treatment For Right Side Pain After Gall Bladder Removal Surgery

I had surgery to remove my gallbladder 3 weeks ago - I am still having pain on the right side under my ribs. I took a few bad turns over the past 2 days having the same symptoms as when I had gall bladder problems - nausea intense pain on the right and gurgling around mid chest/right side (this was originally due to bile trying to force itself out of the gall bladder - I had a stone in the bile duct) . I should not be having these same symptoms now my gallbladder is out. What could it be?

Hi,

Usually there should be no pain post gall bladder surgery especially if done by minimally invasive approach like laparoscopy or robotic surgery. Even with the open surgical removal of the gall bladder, the pain comes down by seventh post-operative day.

If you are still having pain, especially associated with nausea and vomiting, then you need ultrasound abdomen to look for the abnormality of hepatobiliary tree with any intrahepatic biliary radical dilatation or any localized collection. Also, a blood test including complete blood count and liver function test need to be done. Meanwhile, for the pains Tab Drotavarin with aceclofenac can be taken, Hope you get the investigations normal and get well soon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manish Kumar Gupta, General Surgeon
