Suggest Treatment For Roseola-like Rashes For An 18-month-old
My son (18 months) has a rash which looks like rosaola but has now lasted more than 7 days. before the rash, he had high fever and a runny nose. I say it looks like rosaola, but actually I think it is measles - but can t be because he was immunised. Can you help? fever gone, but runny nose still there, and rash still there and on his face as well as all over his body. now even spreading to hands and soles of his feet.
Hello dear. The symptoms of Measles and roseaola mimic each other but most commonly seen condition is measles. Though your child is immunized but still there is no hard and fast rule that the child should not get measles. Vaccination may provide protection in 90% of children but in 10% of cases there is chances of child getting infection. The symptoms which you mentioned- high fever, running nose and then rashes on body points more towards measles. You can take the child to a pediatrician who will do blood test and urine test to make a diagnosis. In both cases the treatment is just symptomatic. Paracetamol, fluids etc. Only if there is severe rashes, meningitis and similar complications they will put the child on anti-viral drugs. Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
