Suggest Treatment For Runny Nose And Cough After Recovering From Fever

2yrs girl, recovered from fever (fluctuating temp36.9-38.5) due to viral infection. Now a bit of runny nose, little cough. Last day on antibiotics by doc. Saw a bit of rashes on back of ear that will go away after an hour or two after crying or crankiness. Any causefor concern or what to look out for?

Hi,

What antibiotic she is on? Is this for the first time she is receiving the antibiotic? If the rash is not progressing, you can continue the antibiotic. If not already given, giving an antihistamine(like syrup fexofenadine 2.5ml twice daily) and a nasal decongestant drop(like oxymetazoline pediatric) given for 3-5 days will offer symptomatic relief. Take her back to doctor if the rash is progressing (may suggest drug allergy), the fever recurs or she develops fast breathing/breathing difficulty.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
