Suggest Treatment For Scab With Itching

My partner is bald and in his 50's. Over the past 4-5years he has started getting random scabs on his head that itch a bit and are tender - if he picks off the scab they bleed slightly. He is a man so unfotunatley complains but never goes to the doc to get a skin scrape to find out for sure what it is. I have suggested that he uses a cleanser over his head as it may be blocked oil glands just to see if it makes a difference, alas....
