Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My four month old was diagnosed with scabies. He had lots of little red bumps but didn t seem to be super itchy. The skin scraping was negative for mites. We treated with the prescription cream four days ago. Now he will get a red bump that will disappear within a few hours. I m wondering if that is normal for scabies or if we have a misdiagnosis.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Read the history and understood that your only 4 months old has been really misdiagnosed as scabies, as this is very rare in such a small child unless the mother has it. Secondly the lesions are vanishing within a few hours and this indicates an urticaria or may be some insect bits. Thirdly, the children have not much developed the immunity till the age of 3 year (36 months). Please consult a Dermatologist. Get a correct diagnosis. Stop using any skin lotions/soaps and such preparations that can cause such problems. Keen observation and then the avoidance of such things can be curative.
