Suggest Treatment For Scaly Bumps On Scalp And Swollen Lymph Nodes
I removed a tick from my son s scalp (a couple of inches above his right ear) 2 weeks ago. The lymph nodes behind his right ear were noticably swollen so we went to the pediatrician (the scalp between the tick bite and his area was also irritated and scaly). She said no worries, just watch for a target lesion in 4-6 weeks. Now the scaly scalp area has larger, red, pimple-like bumps (at least 10). The lymph nodes are still swollen, which she said would happen for several more weeks. But should these enlarged and red bumps be a concern? He has not had any other symptoms that I find relevant.
* As per my clinical experience, scaly bumps on scalp with swollen lymph nodes indicate bacterial infection ( staph aureus or others ) with secondary node enlargement.
My guidelines at present
- hair wash with protein rich nourishing shampoo
- local application of miconazole cream
- oral mox clavulanic acid tablet or syrup as per the weight and age criteria
- supportive therapy as anti pyretic, analgesic for pain relief
- take care of dandruff if any
* The lymph nodes get gradual resolution over a period of time, once the basic pathology is under control.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
