Suggest Treatment For Sciatic Nerve Pain

I have sciatic nerve pain and have had it for over a month now. I ve had this problem in the past and what took care of the pain was a cortisone shot. Hadn t returned for many years. I don t like taking Gabapentin but that what the doctor prescribed. Won t give me a cortisone shot unless I go to a spine specialist. I ve had x-rays of lower back and I have degeneration of lumbar/sacroiliac. I knew that from previous x-rays. I m also diabetic and overweight. I watch what I eat and do water aerobics. My question is what do you recommend to get rid of the pain? Thank you.

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your sciatica associated pain.

The pain killers you have been advised are best for you, it may be difficult for you for first few days and you will adopt to it after that to its side effects.

The other analgesics like non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs are there but as you are diabetic it may cause high blood sugar to you.

As you know the best treatment for you is rest as much as you take the problem will go as quickly but being a diabetic you always need some sort of excersize.

My opinion is talk to your doctor about steroid medication before taking it by your own these drugs also aggravate diabetes.

Hope my answer will help you and you can write to us further if you feel any assistance in future.

Regards
Dr Muzaffer Hussain Parray.
