Suggest Treatment For Scleroderma On Leg

Hello, I am a 47 year old female, height 5 7. I was admitted to the hospital in early January 2016 due to cellulitis. I had horrible pain my feet. When I woke up, it felt as if I had stepped in a bucket of glass shards. I went to a local Patient First ambulatory clinic where once they looked at it suggested I go to the emergency room. I was admitted to the hospital for 3 days and sent home on antibiotics. Since then, I have flare ups from time to time, but nothing close to the pain I had before. I lost my job inbetween, so I had no health insurance. I just endeavored to ingest very high doses of vitamin C, about 10,000 mg per day. This has seemed to help greatly. Last week, it seems like it had a relapse and pain started getting worse. Today is better since taking the Vitamin C and putting ice on my feet for relief. I have noticed the skin on my lower left leg looks all bumpy and surface of skin very hard-like. Have been putting coconut oil on my legs every night for past 3 days.....noticed a bit better but not all they way yet. Will appearance of my skin be restored also? Thank you for any help you can give. God bless you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Scleroderma is a known auto immune disorder affecting soft tissue of various body parts to variable extent. My guidelines at present:
- Local application of aloe vera cream and turmeric paste on alternate basis
- Sitz bath with epsom salt and lavender oil
- Continue prescribed antibiotics with anti inflammatory medicines as per guidance of your consultant
- Discuss the need and role of steroids and disease modifying agents as monoclonal antibodies and others for basic pathology regression or halt

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
