Hi doctor, I have a serbacious cist on my arm just below my shoulder.I went to see my doctor. An incision was made to drain the cist .After cleaning and dressing it, he gave me a prescription for fucidin cream.I read on the internet that fucidin should not be applied to an open wound. Is there an alternative? Yusuf
Fucidin OR Fusidic acid is a topical antibiotic. It is ok to apply fucidin to a wound. It would prevent any possibility of secondary bacterial infection. Even other topical antibacterials available in cream/ ointment form like mupirocin, framycetin, retampmulin etc can be applied to a wound.
