Suggest Treatment For Segmental Vitiligo On Arm, Chest And Back
I have what my doctor says is segmental vitiligo on my right arm, the right side of my chest and on the right upper side of my back. I m fifteen and I ve never had this until about two years ago. Nothing has changed. In fact, it may have gotten worse. I was put on Elidel cream from my previous dermatologist but it never worked. I also have horrible cystic acne and went on Accutane, stopped, and now I m set to go back on. Is there any vitiligo treatment I can do/take while at the same time taking Accutane that will give me fast and satisfactory results?
Vitiligo has no specific treatment. Topical cortico-steroids are most effective on small, newly de-pigmented areas. Potent topical cortico-steroids can be used on the face and other parts of the body. It can be combined with light therapy. I recommend to consult your dermatologist for a specific treatment. Meanwhile, at home you can use gentle steroid cream such as Hydrocortisone cream.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
