Suggest Treatment For Sever Muscle Spasms On The Back

I have had problems with my muscles in my back...both sides. I have fibro and IC. The problem with my muscles in my back are continually getting worse. Continual movement of my arms, any kind of strain at all can bring on pain. I have sever muscle spasms. This week I have been to the ER 2 times, I have been given Demerol and Morphine for the pain along with shots of steriods and muscle relaxers. I am taking muscle relaxers 10 mg 3 times a day and also a med pack for steriods. I have had blood tests preformed for enzymes for my muscles, I have had needle test done and the results show inflammation and possible infection.....3 doctors saw these results but have never addressed what to do to diagnose this condition or offer a solution to help. I wear a TENS unit and sometimes have to wear 2 of them to try to get some relief, I use ice and heat. In order to get some relief I have used cinder blocks, iron skillets, anything that is hard that will press into the muscle to get some relief. Right now nothing seems to help. I am in search of a doctor that can point me in the right direction. I cannot take any kind of opiate medication, I am allergic to it. I am about to go crazy trying to find some help. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You have interstitial cystitis and fibromyalgia as described in your question. Your back pain appears t be related to fibromyalgia. Pl note that fibromyalgia and IC have a correlation with each other. You are already taking medications for it and if its not helping you then I would advise you for a review with a team of doctors including a rheumatologist, neurologist and also a psychologist. You can ask them to change medications of similar or different group. You need not take opioids and you can try different combination of NSAIDs group of drug.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
