Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain, Bloating And Constipation

Hi doctor, I m a bit concerned that I m experiencing the exact same symptoms for the 3rd time in 4 months. I have a dull abdominal pain right underneath my belly botton that appears out of nowhere. It lasts for up to 48 hours and it starts off as kind of colitis, but continues to get worse as the hours go by until the point that I need to walk slowly otherwise it s very uncomfortable. Along with this I have bloating and a lot of gas, and then I start feeling really lousy like I m coming down with a cold and I get fever, chills and joint pain. The first 2 times this happened I was ovulating so I thought it was related to that. Also the first time it happened I had a bit of constipation, but only the first time. This time it s a week after ovulation so it has zero to do with that. My stools are black on and off when I get these symptoms and there is no nausea, vomiting nor diarrhea. I have an appetite and I can eat just fine, it s just the constant dull ache, gas, fever and chills that I can t explain.

Hi,

I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. Certain degree of bloating is normal but in case of excessive bloating it may be sign of food allergy, hiatal hernia, IBS or inflammatory bowel diseases.

So you should do gastroenterologic work up but first try to change your dietary habits, it means: eat smaller meals but more frequently, avoid fried and spicy food, take menta tea, avoid alcohol and coffee, eat probiotics and milk products, boiled food and vegetables.

Also, there are medications such as Flobian, Magnesium oxide or certain Laxatives which may relieve such symptoms of this continue. If there wont be improvement on these measures, you should consider doing diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy, anal sphincter manometry and food allergy testing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
