Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain In An Elderly Person
My 80 year old Mom is in a lot of pain today. Her legs hurt a lot, her stomach hurts and yesterday the Dr gave her meds for a bladder or kidney infection. She has had 3 doses but can t eat or doesn t feel like it. She is drinking water and I made her some broth and tried to get her to eat a couple crackers. I am really worried about the leg issue, she has not felt well for 2 weeks.
Based on the history you have shared, she may need more potent analgesics but also with kidney safety. OTC analgesic like Acetaminophen or nerve pain suppressants like Gabapentin. X-ray lumbar spine may be needed and orthopedician or neurosurgeon review is recommended.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wishing her a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
