Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain

I think I may be having a gall bladder attack. Terrible abdominal pain in my upper right side and below my ribs and also in my back on the right side. Abdominal bloating. How long will the pain last. And what should I not be eating or whatever that is causing the problem. Thank you.

Hello! thank you for your question. Diseases that usually causes right upper quadrant pain in your abdomen includes gallbladder stones (cholelithiasis), inflammation of your appendix (acute appendicitis) and kidney stones. Did you have any past abdominal ultrasound confirming you have gallbladder stones? If yes, when was this done?, did you consider repeating or doing another whole abdominal ultrasound to evaluate if the stones are increasing in size or is causing a blockage in your biliary tract as this may indicate a surgical intervention. If the pain lasts for more than 20 minutes and accompanied by fever, nausea and vomiting, you should consider immediately checking with a medical doctor for further work up and evaluation. Also i highly recommend ultrasound so as to rule out an acute appendicitis which may have similar symptoms with acute cholelithiasis. Kidney stones may also be ruled out with ultrasound. For confirmed gallbladder stones, consider a dietary modification, avoid fatty and salty foods, drink lots of water and increase intake of foods rich in fiber. Furthermore, avoid taking any pain medications at this point in time until you have taken an ultrasound ruling out possibility of acute appendicitis as pain relievers may mask the pain resulting to inaccurate diagnosis. If you have further questions please follow up.

Hope this helps,
Thank you and God Bless!
