Suggest Treatment For Severe And Persistent Cough

Dear sir, I am having cough for 2 wks and taken treatment. But my cough is not resolving. Today I checked my routine blood examination and it shows Esr 30 mm/hr. Rest are normal. Also I have rheumatoid arthritis and it s treatment is going on from last 4 wks.. Is there any problem with this elevated Esr???

ESR may not be a specific test to diagnose a particular infection but it informs if you are having an inflammatory process going on.The normal range for ESR varies with age and with sex.
-Women under 50years : -Men under 50 : -Women over 50 : -Men over 50 :
Depending on your age and sex, you will know if it is pathologic.However, there is an increase.With an ongoing cough which is suggestive of a lung or upper respiratory infection, and on treatment for Rheumatoid arthritis, this increase can be explained.I will say the value is not on its own a cause for concern yet but persistence of cough for 2 weeks and on treatment will need a reevaluation by your Doctor.A sputum exam and a chest X-ray may be helpful if your Doctor feels so.
