Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a hacking cough on and off for about 8 months. I went through a surgery in Oct 2016 which ended with me getting a infection that it took antibiotics through an IV. The cough started when I was in the hospital and they gave me breathing treatments. My doctors thought it might be the antibiotic that I was taking but I have been off all antibiotics for a month. I ve been to several doctors including an Infectious disease doctor. I have a CATscan, Chest Xrays, and many blood tests. Do you have an idea what could be causing such a cough? Pat Reese
Hi Persistent cough with no particular findings on lab and Image tests can be very disturbing.I will suggest you get a sputum exam and culture if not yet done. It might be an infection from a resistant germ. Also, it might be a Chronic obstructive bronchopneumopathy given the on and off nature and if you have some respiratory diffi ulties.I will also suggest you get a Spirometry test.I will also advise the you see a lung expert with this given the chronic nature. In the meantime, take enough fluid, avoid cold and Cold drinks, avoid smoke and cigarette as well. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
