Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 20 year old daughter was diagnosed with severe Anemia yesterday and received 2 pints of blood during the night. During our time in the emergency room, she was asked continually if her back hurt. It didn t at the time, but it is really hurting now. She is at work where she is a waiter at a steak house. Got on line to see if this is something we should contact her doctor or if serious, return to the emergency room.
Hello Dear. Pain in the back and joints is common after blood transfusion or receiving iron injections because iron in blood and injections gets deposited in the joints and bones of the back. The pain will be there for couple of days. So do not worry. It will subside. There are lot of causes of anemia.
In females the most common causes is excessive bleeding during menses. Kindly consult a gynecologist in case your daughter has excessive bleeding during menses.
The other most common cause is hook worm infection. get treated for hookworms.
Other cause of anemia is deficient iron and vitamin b12 in food. Eat lot of green leafy vegetables, fruits etc
There are lot of other causes for anemia which are rare, but needs to be ruled out. Hence get complete blood count & peripheral smear test done. Get back to me with the reports if it is there.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
