Suggest Treatment For Severe Anxiety And Depression
I recently noticed my son s shoe wear pattern has changed drastically and he s hunched forward. I m and EMT/LVN, and my son is 19, uses elicit drugs including ecstasy to self-medicate for anxiety and depression. Looking at his neck when he s bent over it s clear to me he has scoliosis, but I can t see his entire spine. you re thoughts....besides Dr., x-ray etc... regarding ecstasy as the cause and the long-term effects since he s still growing? Tx, Deb
While obviously, I cannot comment on scoliosis without and examination and imaging.
I can tell you that ecstasy, as well as any other illicit substance, would not cause these changes, so I would look for some other cause to explain this.
Scoliosis typically has a genetic cause, which can become more prominent during periods of growth, but at the age of 19 I would not expect to see this growth or these changes in him.
If the scoliosis is severe, he may need a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
