Suggest Treatment For Severe Arthritis In Right Hip
Hi, My problem is that I have severe arthritis in my right hip. I have been told that I need a hip replacement immediately. I have just gone 60 years of age. I had an injection into the hip about six weeks ago and it was fine for 3 to 4 days. The pain is back again. Do you think it is too young for a hip replacement at 60. How long does the artificial hip last. Many thanks Michael
Though, the straight answer to your question is neither assuring nor amenable to guarantee. However, most of the hip replacements may work for a very long period, may be life long. Long term studies in the follow up of replacement of hip joints, after 15-20 years of hip replacement have shown that approximately 90% of the joints replaced were still in a good working condition.
Hence, in my opinion, your surgeon will be in a better position to tell you about all the prose and cones of hip replacement in relation to your health status and thus you may be in a better position to take the best decision for yourself in this regards.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
