Suggest Treatment For Severe Back Pain And Inflammation

I have bilateral knee replacements that are 3-4 years old. In the last year, the left one has randomly swollen up about 4 times I think. There is pain associated with this as well as limited mobility. I have tried elevation, icing and rest in the past with recovery within 2-3 days. However this time it s been 3 days with no change and my ongoing back pain has become quite severe and feels inflamed also. When I called the orthopedic surgeons office they can only offer me an appointment in 2 weeks! I m in pain now, I need help now and don t want my condition to worsen. Any suggestions or input as far as what I should do would be greatly appreciated. Donna

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the concern. You have complaint of swollen knee joint and severe back pain. Also had a history of bilateral knee joint replacement. Knee joint swelling may be due to infection for that you continue your remedies like leg elevation, ice application. Moreover give rest to your knee joint. Avoid taking weight on that knee. Also you can use knee cap. Take pain killers with serretopeptidase and you can also take antibiotics like combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for 7 days twice daily.
For back pain you can also take pain killers with sereetopeptidase. Also you can take combination of methylcobalamine once daily for at least 20 days for nerve compression. Give rest to your back, avoid lifting heavy weights, take hot compression on back. Learn some back exercise by consulting physiotherapist till you saw to orthopaedic surgeon.
Consult orthopaedic surgeon get xray of knee joint apview and lateral view. Get ctscan and MRI of back and start treatment of this under guidance of orthopaedic surgeon. Hope this might help you. Take care
