Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I normally eat 3-4 hours before going to bed. However I still have belching. I have a generic omeprazole to take but do not take them unless its absolutely necessary because I do not have heart burn and I have heard the capsules may cause dementia and i am afraid to take them.
Belching even though you eat 3-4 hours before bed means there may be another factor like gastritis and gastroesophageal reflux disease, indigestion. Stress and anxiety to add to the problems. Since Omeprazole takes care of gastritis that is acidity related it may not help for belching as you may need additional treatment in the form of domperidone to avoid belching, antacids if there is burning. -Upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy to see for the exact cause. -Test of blood and stool. -Change of diet which causes fewer gases and belching. -Control of stress and anxiety. -Upright sitting for some time, walk around after food, and reclining bed position also helps a lot.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
