Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i just finished running for about 2 hours and i m now shivering but warm to the touch. the run was in mild weather (75 degrees) and I remained hydrated. I am now bundled in layers of warm clothing, and the shivering has stopped, but I m still shaking....
I read your message carefully and understood your concern.
Post-running shivers are quite common in runners. There is nothing big to worry about.
Body tremors after running are because of thermoregulation abnormally. When you start running your body temperature rises gradually till you start to sweat and feel your skin warm.
When you stop running, heat loss and sweating will stop quickly. Even though you don't lose heat skin temperature will remain high. Heat production is reduced and heat loss is elevated. Your skin gets cold fast and causes you shivers.
If the heat loss after running occurs gradually nothing happens but if it occurs too quickly tremors will develop.
Next time after running try to take your time to calm down and don't take off your clothes or take a shower immediately after running.
Hope this was helpful. Dr.Albana
