Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have severe chest pain, slightly to the left of my sternum. The pain is not associated with any activity such as eating or physical exertion. The pain usually lasts 15-30 minutes and is a sharp, stabbing, pain. The pain is so intense I actually have to concentrate on breathing and being very still until it goes away. The pain will go away on its own without treatment. The last 2 occasions which happened within one week, occurred while I was sitting. After the first event I went to the ER and my EKG, Cardiac enzymes, CXR, CT of head and chest were all negative. I take no medications on a routine basis. I have no health problems.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your pain description points to a coronary heart disease. However, with normal ECG, cardiac enzymes, CXR, this may be eliminated. I wish to find out if you are hypertensive. Such chest pain may as well be of digestive origin like GERD/gastritis. I will advise you discuss this with your doctor. If the case, a proton pump inhibitor will help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
